İngilizce kullanımı dilimizdekinden biraz farklı ve karmaşıktır. TAG QUESTIONS Tag questions, cümlelerin sonuna eklediğimiz sorulardır. Cümleye “değil mi, tamam mı?” gibi anlamlar katar. Örneğin She is speaking, isn’t she? O konuşuyor, değil mi? You are a teacher, aren’t you? Sen öğretmensin değil mi? Ali is clever, isn’t he? Ali zeki, değil mi? Tag questions konusunun temel mantığı; cümlenin yapısı olumlu ise question tag’in olumsuz, cümlenin yapısı olumsuz ise question tag’in olumlu olmasıdır. *Olumlu Cümlelerde You know him, don’t you? Onu tanıyorsun, değil mi? They like each other, don’t they? Birbirlerini seviyorlar, değil mi? She is from Ankara, isn’t she? O Ankaralı, değil mi? He speaks German, doesn’t he? O Almanca konuşur,değil mi? We went there, didn’t we? Biz oraya gittik, değil mi? OLUMSUZ CÜMLELERDE You aren’t coming, are you? Sen gelmiyorsun, değil mi? She isn’t a doctor, is she? O doktor değil, değil mi? They were running, weren’t they? Onlar koşuyordu, değil mi? He didn’t play football, did he? Futbol oynamadı, değil mi? We aren’t singing, are we? Şarkı söylemiyoruz, değil mi? DİKKAT EDİLMESİ GEREKEN KURALLAR NOT 1 Eğer yardımcı fiil yoksa, question tag cümlenin zamanına göre belirlenir. Örnek 1 “She called you yesterday” cümlesinde yardımcı fiil yoktur ama cümle geçmiş zaman yani simple past tense ile yapılmış olduğu için biz yardımcı fiili “did” olarak kabul ederiz. Cümle de olumlu olduğu için did fiilini olumsuz hale çevirip tag question’ı “didn’t” olarak belirleriz. Tag question ile cümlemiz “She called you yesterday, didn’t you?” şeklinde olmalıdır. Örnek 2 Aynı şekilde, “They play basketball” cümlesinde de yardımcı fiil bulunmadığı için ve cümle geniş zaman yani simple present tense ile kurulduğu için, yardımcı fiili “do” olarak kabul ederiz. Cümledeki tag question“They play basketball, don’t they?” şeklinde olmalıdır. NOT 2 “I am” ile başlayan cümlelerin tag question’ı “aren’t I” şeklinde yapılır. Örneğin I am beautiful, aren’t I? Ben güzelim, değil mi? I am the first to come, aren’t I? İlk gelen benim, değil mi? I am the best, aren’t I? En iyi benim, değil mi? NOT 3 Cümlenin yapısı olumsuz olmadığı halde, anlamı olumsuzsa Örneğin They have never been to London, have they? Nobody lives here, do they? NOT 4 Tag questions daima kişi zamirleriyle oluşturulur. Doğru Students do their homework, don’t they? Yanlış Students do their homework, don’t students? Doğru Everbody likes hamburger, don’t they? Yanlış Everybody likes hamburger, don’t everybody?
